Join me on Sunday, October 24th, 2021 from 10:00am- 1pm (Pacific Time) for an in person Creative Wanderlust Experience where we will gather at Tongva Park in Santa Monica to learn how to be a Creative Director and bring a movie idea inspired by LA surf/beach culture through drawing, collaging and writing.

Our Morning Begins...

Our experience begins with a few engaging wanderlust warm-up exercises talking about the history of surf & beach culture in Los Angeles, the film and television industry and discussing the significance of our surrounding area. 

With our new found creative energy and the ocean air to inspire us, we will then dive into filling out our handmade individual journals, brainstorming movie ideas through various hands on prompts and ideas.

Brainstorm a Movie Idea

We will think up a fun story, craft characters, think up costumes, discuss dialog, dream of music and ultimately collage a movie mood board representing our ideas.

Personalized instructions will be offered throughout to teach us how to capture the story we want to tell through our various exercises.

Participants will leave inspired by our surf-vibe experience and with a colorful illustrative journal filled with ideas just waiting to hit the big screen!

Event Details

Skill Level

This experience is open to all skill levels. As we explore this location, and engage in creative exercises I will provide approachable instructions to help everyone follow along no matter their ability. I will also provide step by step details and be available for individual help throughout the event as we write, sketch and collage. 

For more advanced artists, I welcome you adding your own personal flair to our activity.

Art Supply List

All art supplies will be provided for use while on location.

We will be using:
  • black pen
  • watercolor pencils
  • water brushes
  • collage material (papers, glue stick, scissors)
You are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

What's Included

  • a hand made interactive journal filled with prompts to brainstorm and create our ideas
  • art supplies to use while on location

Health & Safety

This event will be held outdoors and requires some standing and a small amount of walking along a paved path. We will be doing our main activity on picnic blankets on a grassy area, so there will be a place to sit. Weather at this time of year can vary from hot and dry to possible rain, so please bring a light sweater/jacket and/or sunscreen and a hat depending on the conditions. 

Being mindful of COVID, I will defer to all county (Los Angeles County) and state (California) pandemic rules regarding mask usage on the day of the class. Personally, I request that non-vaccinated participants (and vaccinated participants if desired) have a mask on hand as needed.
