A Creative Postcard from Paris: What Renoir Taught Me About Flowers

I’ve been noticing flowers everywhere recently because spring has definitely sprung! Here in Paris, flowers are spilling out of market stalls, florists, and bursting in the parterres of the parks & gardens…
I saw Renoir’s new exhibit at the Musée d’Orsay the other week, and as always, many moments have stayed with me. The way he lets color blur and soften instead of defining every detail… it feels more like how you actually experience flowers, not how you think you should draw them!
It makes me excited for my upcoming creative tour in the Loire in just over a month— wandering through gardens, not trying to capture everything, just noticing what draws me in - the blur, the color, the softness.
Wish you were here to see it all with me.
A Creative Prompt for You
Tip: Color over the details!
Let color do the work instead of outlining everything! No need for perfect flowers, just do swatches of colors where flowers should be and see the softness and beauty that comes alive!
Print & “Color-Your-Own” Postcard
Here is your very own printable postcard inspired by Renoir and his florals. Be inspired by a master, yet make it your own!
Come to the Creative Wanderlust Explorer Lounge and Create with Me!
I’ll be playing with this idea a bit more this week — small color studies, nothing finished — and sharing a short Open Studio inside the Lounge where I sketch something like this in real time come join me there if you want to try it too.
